Sixth blog- Do games count?

A video game can be defined as any various interactive games played using a specialized electronic gaming device, a computer or mobile device and a television or other display screen, along with a means to control graphic images. An article written by Roger Ebert, basically rips apart the question of whether or not video games are considered art. He said, "Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form." Ebert also said, "No one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great poets, filmmakers, painters and so on." Even after talking with his friend who is a designer and video game producer, Kellee Santiago, he still said she was mistaken about her views on video games being art. Many people like Ebert think that the difference between art and games is that one has the ability to win a game. An immersive game (without rules or outcomes) becomes a representation of a story, or a play; these become things one can not win only experience. A debate like this will continue raging in the entertainment industry for years to come, but the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) a U.S. government organization, officially considers games art, which now makes them eligible for artistic funding.

The definition of art does not include anything having to do with video games or films.
Art - something that is created with imagination and skill, that is beautiful or expresses important ideas or feelings: works created by artists like paintings, sculptures, drawings (etc...) usually by one lone person.

After seeing both sides to whether or not video games count and discussing it amongst the group, we all agree that video games should indeed be considered art. Many players and reviewers on the video games Journey or Halo consider these pieces to be full of art. Since video games demand our full attention and effort to truly engage with them, it is easy for those who do not play to be dismissive of the medium. After viewing multiple screenshot images from these games, it does not seem like a tough choice. Art should bring out some type of emotion in the viewers and bring people together. Both images below are just a small portion of what the games consist of and just with these and from personal experiences with different video games we think it is and should be considered beautiful. Even though most video games are created by a group of people they design and build something amazing that deserves the same recognition that other pieces of art get. This is a new form of art that has grown massively through recent generations and is a dominating art form in the 21st century; that will continue to rise.
